GIS based DHC network planning and design automation tool

Ghent, Belgium. Comsof introduces HeatPlanIT, an automated planning and design software for District Heating and Cooling (DHC) networks. HeatPlanIT is the most recent addition to Comsof’s flourishing portfolio. FiberPlanIT, the other half of the portfolio, is the market leader for FTTx network planning and design automation software. The goal of Comsof is to help their customers plan and design utility networks in an efficient and cost-effective way by developing automated network planning optimization software. With the HeatPlanIT product, they want to guarantee these savings for the DHC networks similar to what they have achieved with Fiber Access Networks.

“Research and Development have been at the forefront of Comsof since our initial years. With the success of FiberPlanIT, we decided to expand our product range by applying the same principles to plan and design other utility networks. This prompted us to start with HeatPlanIT as a R&D project which concluded in the development of this product. A DHC network is a sustainable and ecological system to provide heating and cooling to residential and commercial buildings. With this product, we can speed up these projects and make them more profitable.”  – Raf Meersman, CEO, Comsof

“We have been working on HeatPlanIT for almost a year now. During the development, we have closely collaborated with experts from the industry to develop a product that can satisfy the needs of experienced DHC networks planners.  The industry’s response for HeatPlanIT has been promising.” – Kurt Marlein, R&D Manager, Comsof

Marco den Burger, Senior specialist at Rotterdam Engineering confirms this: “HeatPlanIT is a valuable tool for designing and optimizing district heating networks. The high level estimate of CAPEX is very useful to develop business plans. The ease with which alternative designs and costs can be compared saves a lot of time.”

Jan-Thijs van Wijnkoop, Technical Sales Manager at Thermaflex attended a training at Comsof: “HeatPlanIT allows a fast and thorough feasibility evaluation of  district heating projects using different configurations and based on the exact topography. The provided software training helps to get started with HeatPlanIT right away.”
