SmartPlanIT is an R&D project to develop a comprehensive software system to plan and design smart grid communication networks, essential elements of the current energy transition. Powered by GIS data, the system helps distribution grid operators determine which fixed line (e.g. PLC) and wireless communication technologies to deploy and the related material and equipment to install.
SmartPlanIT aims to support the development of smart grid communication networks in various ways:
Accelerating the planning process
Automatically generate communication network proposals mapped onto the existing power grid and existing and future power generation units and consumer nodes
Define multiple deployment scenarios and compare investment and operating costs
Accelerating the design process
Automatic dimensioning and bill of materials calculation
Cost-optimize detailed designs
Call for industry partners
Comsof is inviting distribution grid operators and engineering and consulting firms to join us as partners to co-create this innovative new planning tool. The aim is to make use of the expert knowledge in the field and collaborate on finetuning the conceptual framework and the technical details using real-life use cases. Developments will later be tested in a proof of concept.
